5 Tips for a healthy wellbeing during lockdown

As we come to the halfway point of this 4 week lockdown I thought I would share some key points on getting through this tough time. If you are like me then the novelty of a lockdown and the initial shock of a global pandemic has now gone and the next 2 weeks (maybe more) don’t promise to be very exciting. Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely loved spending more time than usual with my fiancé and 14-week old son, but the struggle of working from home and finding that balance is real.

Below are some tips, and examples of how I am implementing them for the better of not only my own wellbeing by my family’s as well.

  • Find ways to keep learning: Isn’t it amazing, the engagement we are having with technology? We are now forced to do online meetings for work, electronically sign documents. We have a great opportunity to upskill ourselves. I have found time to enhance my business and my client’s experience by ironing out my processes.
Here a couple of great sites you can visit to get this into action.

  • Find ways to keep active- Who would have thought your PT would be on your TV carrying out training sessions as you pump away in your living room or garage? If this still isn’t quite for you then you may be like me and are really loving going out walking. Our neighbourhood has never been so busy with foot traffic and the people so friendly as you pass them and say HI.

  • Find ways to connect with people- Snapchat, house party, Skype, Whats App. There are so many great apps these days that allow us to stay connected. Having lived overseas myself, embracing technology was essential so none of this is new to me, but to some people it is completely foreign. My son’s grandparents especially. Having them video in to chat to him and watch him progress is not something we ever thought we would be doing 8 weeks ago but now it has become the norm.

  • Spend time with nature- With strict lockdown rules in place, a stroll to the local park is about as close to nature as we can get at the moment. However, I have used the last couple of weeks to catch up in the garden and get some outside projects finished. My feijoa tree is producing an abundance of fruit which I am learning to use in a variety of ways from crumble to muffins and loaf.

  • Find ways to give- It’s fair to say that it feels a lot better to give something than receive something. I have found during this lockdown period that I have been in the routine of getting breakfast and hot drink ready for my fiancé as she gets up usually form a broken night’s sleep with the wee man. She, in turn, makes sure that I am looked after with a beer or a glass of wine after a day at work in the home office - we both subconsciously get a great deal of satisfaction and happiness from doing such a small thing for each other. It is so good for your mental game.
